Should I Hire Someone to Take Care of My Landscape? Many homeowners debate about whether or not to hire someone to care for the needs of their landscape. On the surface, caring for a yard may seem pretty straightforward. But, as many homeowners have learned, getting and maintaining the landscape you want can be time consuming and complicated. If you find yourself in a situation where you do not have the time, knowledge, or tools to properly care for your landscape then it is time to explore the possibility of hiring help.

You lack the time to take care of your landscape

Properly caring for your landscape can eat up a lot of time. Keeping your yard, garden, and flowerbeds in top shape requires more than mowing and watering. You also need to protect your landscape from threats such as weeds, pests, and disease. In order to get and maintain a healthy landscape you will also need to provide it with appropriate nutrition through tasks like aeration and fertilization. Keeping up with a landscaping maintenance schedule like this can require a lot of time. If you do not have the time to be consistent with these tasks then it makes sense to hire someone to take care of your landscape.

You lack the knowledge to take care of your landscape

There is a level of knowledge required to properly care for your landscape. Do you know how to tell the difference between disease and pest damage to your grass? Do you know the best timing for aeration and fertilization? Do you know the lifecycle of the type of grass you have in your yard? These are a few questions that can help you gauge your level of knowledge about yard care. If you lack the knowledge about when and how to complete the tasks your yard needs then hiring someone who does will do wonders for the well-being of your landscape.

You lack the tools to take care of your landscape

Properly taking care of your landscape requires a certain set of tools. Without the proper tools the tasks often require significantly more time and effort. For example, aerating your yard with a machine designed for the task may take a few hours while aerating it with a hand tool may take all weekend. The proper tool will minimize the amount of time and physical exertion you have to devote to the task. The same is true for a number of other landscaping duties. You can go and purchase the proper tools but it is usually more cost effective to hire someone who already possesses the proper tools to take care of your landscape.

You can hire help for some or all of your landscaping needs. The level and amount of help you need depends on a number of factors that are unique to your situation.  The best way to figure out exactly what you need is to have a landscape professional come out to assess your situation and make recommendations.
