Weeds are one of the worst issues to deal with as a gardener. Nothing ruins the look of your house or yard like a weed infested lawn. Even if you spend hours and days working on and tending to your garden and plants, if your lawn is overrun by weeds, it can look like you don’t care. Weeds in your lawn can be even more difficult to kill than weeds in your garden, since they can hide within the thousands of blades of grass. However, if you know the different approaches to take to clear your lawn of weeds, you’ll be able to tackle the problem quickly and prevent damage. Here are some ways that you can get rid of weeds that are infesting your lawn.
Method 1: Pulling Weeds By Hand
The most obvious way to tackle weeds is by hand, the old fashioned way. Although this is probably the most difficult and time consuming way to take out weeds, it is actually the most effective. This is because when you pull a weed out by hand, it eliminates the entire weed, and doesn’t leave the roots that can continue to soak in nutrients from your plants, and grow back quickly.
Method 2: Weed Killing Chemicals
There are many weed killing products on the market, so if you’re considering this method do your research and find a product that you’re comfortable with. There are plenty of products that can kill weeds without damaging your plants or lawn. You can also hire a professional landscaper and discuss your needs before they begin spraying your yard to get rid of weeds.
There are a couple of things you can do that will help you spot weeds right away, and clear them out quickly so that you can reduce the damage they do. The first tip we have is keeping your grass a nice, moderate length. You might think that cutting your lawn extra short is better, since it allows you to wait longer in between mowings. However, leaving your grass to grow for longer allows the blades to block sun from the tiny weeds that are growing amongst them. This prevents the weeds from growing and might actually cause some of them to die off.
You’ll also want to keep an eye on your lawn. That doesn’t mean you’ll need to go out and work on it every day, but whenever you pass by it, take a quick scan for any weeds that might have sprouted up, and get rid of them as soon as they’re visible. Hiring a landscapercan also help here, since it’s their job to keep an eye on your lawn and work to repair any issues right away.
