Effective Weed Control Methods | The Experienced GardenerWeeds can seemingly pop up out of nowhere a wreak havoc on your lawn and flower beds. They can steal nutrients from the ground that you intend for your other plants and prevent them from thriving. In addition, weeds can crowd out the good grass and plants that you want to grow. They grow much more quickly than most other types of plants making it easy for them to overpower other things that are trying to grow. In order to protect your yard and flower bed from the issues that weeds can cause you need to employ effective weed control methods. You have a few different options for dealing with weeds. The most appropriate option is dependent on your situation.

Nurture your current grass and plants

Nurturing the grass and plants that you have can be a highly effective way to control weeds. Healthy grass and plants are not as susceptible to weed infestations as unhealthy grass and weeds. There are several things you can do regularly that will keep your yard at the peak of health.

Mow properly- there is a proper way to mow that is beneficial to the health of your yard. Keeping it mowed on a consistent basis reduces the likelihood of weeds sneaking in without you noticing. You also need to mow it at the proper height. Cutting your grass too short can damage the root system and make it more susceptible to disease and weeds.

Aerate- aeration is the process of creating holes in your yard. These holes help loosen up the soil and create space for you to get nutrients directly to the roots of the grass. You only have to aerate occasionally but it can make a big difference in the health of your yard.

Fertilize- when you aerate your yard it is the ideal time to fertilize it as well. Fertilizing your yard after aeration gives it a dose of nutrients straight to the roots. This boost of health-giving nutrients can strengthen your grass and help it fight off threats like disease and weeds.

Apply DIY weed treatment

DIY weed treatment can be an effective type of weed control in some situations. There are plenty of weed killer options available at the local hardware store. In addition, a quick search online will provide you with a list of homemade weed killers that you can make with common household supplies. If your weed issue is small and manageable then some type of DIY weed treatment may be all you need to effectively get it under control.

Get professional weed control

Professional weed control is an effective option for a variety of situations. Using a lawn care company for weed control gives you access to the tools, sprays, and experience they have from working on yards day in and day out. If you need quick and effective treatment then this is the way to go. If you have a large property or an extensive weed problem then professional help is likely your best option. The good news is that a top notch lawn care professional will be able to look at your property and give you an estimate for the services you need. Then you can decide if that will work for your situation.

One of these three options, or a combination of these options, will help you get started on the process of eradicating the weeds from your yard. In order to keep the weeds from coming back you will need to continue to protect your yard from weeds. Consistent effort on your part will prevent weeds from coming back and causing more problems for your yard.
